Apple Picking

The year I turned 12 we moved to Ashburnham. My parents bought a beautiful old farmhouse on 33 acres of land next to an apple orchard. That fall was the first time I picked (ok stole) an apple right from the tree. The memory of biting into that tart, crisp macintosh was unforgettable! I don’t think I tasted anything as good up to that point.

We did get permission to pick a basket of apples and my Mom made the best apple crumb pie in the world. It’s still my favorite.

Although that orchard is now gone there are many great ones still around here. Take time to walk through a beautiful orchard on a warm September day and pick your own apple. It’s good for the heart and soul.
